EMOM basics How to use an EMOM workout
What does EMOM mean?
EMOM stands for every minute on the minute. It describes the clock, not a specific exercise. A
workout can repeat one movement every minute, alternate two movements, or cycle through a longer rotation.
How long should an EMOM be?
Ten to twenty-four minutes covers most useful EMOM sessions. A 10- or 12-minute workout can carry a faster pace.
Longer EMOMs usually work better with lower reps, simpler transitions, or planned recovery minutes.
How many reps should you do each minute?
Pick a target that takes roughly 35 to 45 seconds while fresh. That leaves 15 to 25 seconds for recovery. For
technical or heavier lifts, shorter sets are usually better. Conditioning movements can use more reps as long as
the target remains repeatable.
